General notes: (about the organism that will not change over time)
- A nest of termites found in a group of hard mounds at the base of a large tree. Several groups of 2 or 3 towers were found within centimeters of eachother but seperated by large roots. It is unclear whether these slightly physically seperated mounds represent different colonies or a single large colony perhaps connected underground or through the tree. The termites within the mounds (which were not easy to bust into!) were all pale white, and a mix of soldiers, workers, and juvenile reproductive males/females with developing wings. Soldiers had enlarged heads and a strangely-shaped mouth-part (see image). It is unclear what the function of this organ is...
