From: (Ferry Slik) Date: Mon, 14 Oct 2019 02:03:20 +0000 Subject: [Mastwatch] Brunei masting Status: O Dear all, I just came back from Andulau forest reserve yesterday and the whole forest floor is covered in dipterocarp fruits (many different species and genera) as well as many other fruits (Artocarpus, Mangifera, Fagaceae, Malvaceae, etc...). Most of the seedlings are already germinating..... So it looks like we had a good masting year in Brunei. We also bumped into a group of pigs, who worridly ran away, as did we ? As you may recall, we had a pretty major masting event with a large portion of Shorea fruiting early this year. But few if any Dipterocarpus fruited then. Now I can report a mass flowering of Dipterocarpus sublamellatus going on, and a few scattered Shorea in bloom as well. Durians in the forest and village are also in flower among other species.
