Endro Setiawan reported big tree flowering in early Oct last year, and it seems this has carried through into abundant fruiting. Any other news of a Borneo mast right now? Thanks, Cam From: (Tim Laman) Date: Tue, 26 Feb 2019 22:26:13 +0000 Subject: [Mastwatch] West Kal Mast Status: O Hi Cam, Yes, I Palung in December, and most Shoreas had ripening fruit. I did some drone photography of the canopy which was amazingly colorful. The orangutan research team just confirmed last week that a huge fruit abundance peak had just occurred around Jan-Feb, with many durians, rambutans, etc etc, as well as Shoreas fruiting. Seems to have been the real deal. Best, Tim > On Feb 26, 2019, at 9:53 PM, wrote: > > Hi mastwatchers, > > (Yes, this list still lives!) > > I?m hearing news of a big Palung, West Kalimantan. If any of the students are ever interested in extending a time series, i?ve got all the data still from 25 yrs ago for a bunch of seedling distances from trees of 4 spp of Shorea. It is a relatively easy sampling design, and it would be cool to compare the density of seedlings from the recent mast (i suspect they?ll be obvious ? cotyledon leaves, height, fresh leaves, etc) to the density of existing seedlings https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/Distance-dependence-in-herbivory-and-foliar-for-in-Blundell-Peart/8079c75126d4a3633beb90122e66edb5a3a3781d Anyway, more importantly, happy Mardi Gras. The party is in full swing down here. Honestly if you?re here you can?t believe it isn?t on the news every night everywhere.
