From: (Gabriella F) Date: Tue, 07 Sep 2010 10:20:07 +0800 Subject: [Mastwatch] _East Kalimantan Status: O Dear All, I have just returned from a 10 day trip to the Wehea forest in East Kalimantan (upper Wahau area). The area is hilly (200-1800+ m asl) with rugged terrain. There was a good mast ongoing there now (end of August-beginning Sept 2010) with large numbers of Dipterocarp species fruiting (many Shorea species, several Dipterocarpus, Anisoptera, Dryobalanos, Hopea) but also several Bombacaceae (Durio dulcis, oxleyanus and others), many Scaphium macropodum and some Burseraceae (Dacryodes), and many more species. The local staff stated that the mast fruiting had been moving through the area already since last year, with fruit around now for almost 10 months or more. The number of fat bearded pigs was also astonishing. Best regards, Gabriella Fredriksson
