General notes: (about the organism that will not change over time)
- The Hesperiidae that I collected at Ginseng Camp during the Maliau Basin hike is likely to be a new GENUS and species for Borneo. The genus is currently known only from the New Guinea mainland and from a few surrounding islands, as well as from North Queensland, Australia. This is a significant range extension for the genus across Wallace's Line and an important new species for the Maliau Basin Conservation Area. The butterfly specimen is now held by the Head of Maliau Basin field station (Hamzah Tangki) and will be forwarded to the University of Malaysia, Sabah (UMS) in due course. Once we have confirmed the record, I plan to describe the new species in collaboration with an entomologist from UMS, Dr Suzan Benedick. Watch this site for further updates!
